Me too. Works great and is plenty loud.

Looks good. Just be careful on the antenna purchase. Don't spend too much, for the simple reason UB said. I would recommend the Larson NMO 2 / 70.

No antenna will be bullet proof, but they aren't super expensive either.

Consider placement as well.
Closer to the center of the vehicle means:
less likely to get ripped off by trees to the side of the vehicle
better ground plane
need to cut hole in roof
Interferes with roofrack
harder to maintain due to location

On a lip mount means:
More susceptible to damage by passing tress and such
less optimum (note: does not mean BAD) ground plane
little or no interference with other things on the vehicle
no need to cut a hole
easier to maintain (or replace in the event of damage)

The radio will serve you well. Yaesu makes a strong product.

I noticed that no one mentioned the ground strap braid you included. I highly recommend this. It may be a subject of disagreement (but since Dave is snowshoeing right now, I get this word in for a few days) but it will never hurt anything. Antennas will always improve in their performance with the best ground plane under them, and by bonding the vehicle you will help achieve this, plus it takes out any chance of vehicle interference with your AM/FM radio as well.

I say the only choice that you will have to make will be the antenna.

Remoted the HAM speaker to the front dash. Look ma no wires!

This is the Midland 21-406 and it fits. You will need a small rat tail file to elongate the holes a tiny bit and the wires need to be orientated up as the opening is slightly offset with a larger gap at the top.

It is made in China but I bought mine from Camelot on their last day before closing down so I guess that is a wash.
