Default Rising Sun HAM Field Day Ideas

Ok folks. Field Day is approaching (June 27th & 28th) and I want to do something to get on the air, drink some suds, talk on air with folks and hopefully hang out with some of my RS friends and family.

Here are a couple of ideas I had so far. Both Ideas involve using the CM trailer with the inspection tents, tables and radio/tower. I am planning on having a tri-band HF antenna for 10M-15M-20M, the Club's 2M/70CM antenna, possibly a wire dipole for 40M and a 6M beam.

1)Take the trailer up to Guanella Pass Campground OR Cold Springs Campground Saturday Morning June 27th, setup and get on the air for 20M and 2M during the day, then as twilight approaches switch over to 40M. overnight and leave sometime Sunday. Bar-B-Q during the day and night, sample suds, talk radios and cruisers and stuff..

2)Do the same thing as #1, except at a centrally located local park like Chatfield Res or the like. Camping wouldn't happen, but we could stay 'till just after dark.

I am just seeing if there are people interested in doing this. There would be plenty of stuff for Technician class operators to partake in, such as IRLP on 2M, 6M SSB might be a kick in the pants (6M IS part of the Technician's privileges), plus a chance for those who have their General Class to get on the air by themselves, and Techs can get on the air with a General's help.

What say you folks of the tin-foil hat persuasion?

I'd be up for it, sounds like fun. Camping would be Ideal I think.

I wanted to get a feel for who might be able to do a couple of hours in town versus maybe getting out of town at either of the campgrounds to make it close and accessible. The reason is, even if you only have the afternoon, you could come by for an hour or two and do some HAM socializing. If more people have obligations that might permit them to get away to a close park, maybe we'll shoot for that. The camping idea was because I also see folks wanting to get away a little, seeing as what klub we are in!!

Cool. It's on my calendar as tentative until I check with the Director of Domestic Operations (DDO).

I'd probably only be able to do a couple hours on Saturday, but I'd still rather drive up to the hills rather than another part of the city. Sound fun!
